Valentine’s Day- Four Walls in a City-

14 Feb

for Mandy- my Valentine Always

St. Valentine’s Day was removed by the Catholic Church
as an official Saint’s Day
due to lack of information regarding the
Saint as an actual person-

in Oklahoma City this morning we study
the history of Saints named Valentine on a smartphone-
an android- there are two phones,
three saints in history
and me
&
you
in this room
this morning.

A small heater keeps it from freezing,
but the real warmth is a blanket we throw
around us- wrapping up
in each other’s dreams & thoughts.

No dogs now – just a you & me morning-
one of our last mornings in Oklahoma City-
I am now home wherever you are.
Tonight we discuss tonight,
tomorrow and
our venture east, but
for now it is a sugary cereal
eating morning
drinking cerealmilk down,

and it is a happy Valentine’s Day-
soon we’ll curl up- then later
after a nap we shall rise after
the sun.

The sun that sets in Oklahoma tonight,
this sun that soon will burn through
the windows of the windows into
our eyes, two doors, and the sun
shines through the curtains-
the sun, always finds a path
under the horizonland, burning
when all three St. Valentines walked this Earth,
when this Sun sets it will be our second
to last Oklahoma City daydown.

It all seems perfect,
and is now on
this our
first Valentine’s Day-
soon goodbye to these
four walls,
small heater
two
doors,
and a
broken radio.

Today as we celebrate our love-
we begin saying
a long goodbye to Oklahoma City.

You are such a romantic, so visual and expressive. “there are two phones, three saints in history
    and me
    &
    you
in this room this morning.” Lines like that can make or break a work of art, this one is made from beginning to end. I love the “but the real warmth is a blanket we throw around us- wrapping up in each other’s dreams & thoughts” line too. You nailed this one!

Thanks so much this was born out of my poetry workshop & a desire to right the love of my life a poem for a Valentine’s Day gift.

I really appreciate the feedback, and both the lines you loved were not in the original sketch- added during elaborative revision on subsequent drafts during the workshop.

Thanks so much for stopping by, and of course Happy Valentine’s Day. Peace.
